On March 5th in Athens, the Greek partner – Hellenic Clothing Industry Association – presents the “Challenges and Opportunities of Industrial Tourism in Greece” workshop, an essential a crucial component of the SMITour project activities. This event will bring together diverse stakeholders to advance the development of industrial tourism in Greece, focusing on policy strategies, problem solving, and pressing questions raised, such as audience engagement for SMEs, industrial spaces and tour operators.

Indeed, amid ongoing crises, an impressive network of small processing and handicraft enterprises has emerged across different areas of the Greek territories. These micro-SMEs are engaging with the community by sharing their processes and experiences, creating a distinctive fusion of tourism, skill development, community engagement, and marketing prospects.

The SMITour initiative aims to amplify the impact of these bottom-up initiatives by promoting their accessibility to the wider public, leveraging new technologies and social media to enhance their integration and competitiveness.

In this vein, the event will focus on three working groups aimed at enhancing industrial tourism through targeted strategies. The SMEs group will try to assess existing capabilities, infrastructure, collaborative opportunities, and effective marketing strategies to attract visitors, aiming to create a roadmap for opening their spaces. The group for existing industrial spaces and museums will employ Creative Business Canvas to evaluate current offerings, integrate SMART technologies for improved visitor experiences, and develop guidelines for balancing modernization with historical preservation. Lastly, the tour operators’ group will focus on audience development using Persona Design and Moodboard tools to identify target demographics, design unique visitor experiences and outline a comprehensive marketing strategy aimed concluding with the creation of an inclusive moodboard to encompass these elements.
