Sustainable Tourism 2024 marks the 11th gathering in a successful series, which began in Segovia (2004) and continued in Bologna (2006), Malta (2008), the New Forest (2010), A Coruña (2012), Opatija, Croatia (2014), Valencia (2016), Vienna (2018), and online events in 2020 and 2022 due to the pandemic.
Tourism is now recognized as a vital component of development, contributing to economic growth and broader human knowledge and welfare. As tourism becomes more accessible to a growing population, it also underscores the importance of transportation and communication networks.
The conference aims to promote ways of protecting the natural and cultural landscape by developing design and management strategies that minimise the adverse effects of tourism. This can be achieved through the involvement and active collaboration of planners, developers, engineers, scientists, and society.
