Split, Croatia – On June 25th and 26th, a significant event titled “Paths That Last – Collaborating for a Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean” brought together key stakeholders in Split, Croatia. This pivotal occasion, orchestrated by the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism, served as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and strategic discussions on the future of sustainable tourism across the region.
The event saw the participation of partners from eight distinct Interreg Programmes: Euro-MED, Greece-Cyprus, Italy-Croatia, Italy-France Maritime, Italy-Malta, Italy-Slovenia, Italy-Tunisia, and NEXT MED. This diverse representation underscored the shared commitment to addressing the challenges and opportunities within the Mediterranean tourism sector.
Over the two-day period, attendees engaged in a series of insightful activities. Live roundtables, featuring representatives from both the EU and various programs, delved into critical themes such as capitalization, governance, and future strategies for sustainable tourism. These discussions aimed to consolidate existing knowledge and lay the groundwork for future initiatives.
The agenda also incorporated interactive workshops, which were designed to promote cross-border exchange of ideas and best practices. A particular focus was placed on fostering youth involvement, recognizing the vital role young people will play in shaping the long-term sustainability of the tourism industry in the Mediterranean. Representatives from the SMITour project were actively involved in the proceedings, taking their place among the many initiatives funded through the Interreg Programmes.
