The Week of Industrial Tourism in Catalonia (Setmana del Turisme Industrial) is an annual event organized by Xarxa de turisme industrial de Catalunya (XATIC) – member of the SMITour project partnership – that aims to promote and celebrate the rich industrial heritage of the region. Scheduled from 18 to 27 October 2024, this week-long initiative will showcase various industrial sites, museums, and experiences that highlight Catalonia’s historical significance in manufacturing and innovation. The event serves as a platform for both locals and tourists to explore the diverse industrial landscape that has shaped the region’s economy and culture.
Throughout this week, a diverse array of venues—including museums, historic factories, mines, and textile colonies—will host a variety of activities designed to pique your curiosity and stimulate your interest in the industrial heritage of Catalonia. Participants can look forward to guided tours, open-door events, and hands-on workshops, providing ample opportunity for exploration and learning. As an innovative highlight, the beloved “Bus Sight Unseen” will once again surprise guests with unexpected destinations and experiences, ensuring that this year’s event is both engaging and memorable.
Key participating locations are expected to include notable cities such as Barcelona, Terrassa, Sabadell, and Manresa. Each city will offer unique experiences tailored to its specific industrial history. A significant emphasis will be placed on sustainability throughout the week. Organizers are committed to promoting eco-friendly practices within tourism by encouraging visitors to use public transportation when traveling between sites and supporting local businesses that prioritize sustainable methods.
